Joe Ransom is an aspiring young musician from Melbourne, Australia - an individual who seems to have that uncanny gift of integral songwriting which is simply a reflection upon the way in which he sees/hears the world.
Inspired by Australia's reputable indie/rock songwriters of the 1990's and 2000's, (names such as Tim Rogers, Jamie Hutchings, Paul Dempsey, Toby Martin, Kevin Mitchell, Marty Donald, can be readily found in the liner notes of his CD collection) Joe is showing a youthful potential to follow their shiny footsteps into the next decade. At very least he has made a commendable start and his shoes are only a little bit scuffed.
"Certainly 'potential' is a fitting word to describe. The songs are good, and getting better. The instrumentation is good, and getting better. The themes are good, and continuous..." Buzz Magazine November 2007
Off his own accord, a series of 4 Lost Note Foundation CDs were recorded and released between 2006-2009, alongside regular band and solo shows played across Australia and solo tours to the U.K and New York. The most recent album 'It's a bit far away' was derived from recording sessions on opposite sides of the world - in Melbourne and Edinburgh - binding a conceptual title and theme with an intuitive meaning, typical to the way in which Joe approaches his music as an evocative form of art.
"This is one album that is a pure joy to listen to. From the beautiful sound of 'Escape' to the brilliantly written 'Imagination Notebook' or the acoustic gem, 'She Is A Pilgrim' (that will evoke emotions inside you that you didn't even know existed), these are all tracks that you could listen to a million times and still not grow tired of." Step, step.
A new recording took place during the Winter of 2009: This time a 5 track EP entitled
'5 POSTCARDS', produced and recorded by Joe himself using borrowed recording equipment set up in a remote farmhouse in rural Victoria.
It was then mixed by Quinn McHugh in Brisbane.
The new recording brings forth a newly found confidence and aspiration for sharing his music with the world.
It's to be released early 2010, so keep checking your mail.
